Looking to mine ethereum or another ethash coin with the 1060 3GB? Just be careful!
Some of the ethash coin DAG files will soon be larger than 3GB, which means these cards won’t be able to mine those coins anymore.
For example, the Ethereum DAG file is predicted to grow over the 3GB size some time in October or November of 2018. Thanks to this Reddit post, calculations show the Ether Dag file will grow larger than the memory on these 3GB mining GPUs (2.92 GB plus some overhead) at block number 6,750,000. With block times, that puts the date somewhere around November 12 – 18, 2018. That’s likely when ethereum mining on a 3GB mining GPU will no longer be possible.
Once a DAG file grows over 3GB, you’ll have to look for another ethash coin to mine with your mining rig, or you can look at switching to a different algorithm like equihash or cryptonight.
